Kenting and Chuanfanshih in Taiwan

Yes, you write it kenDing, but you pronounce kenTing.

Kenting Taiwan (50)

(and yeah, it was super windy)
Kenting Taiwan (53)
So the beach is super small with opaque grey water.
There are some bitting red ants in the sand (they bit me).

The beach isn’t clean, nobody here seems to care about ecology.

So sum up: the place is beautiful but clearly overrated : it’s far too long to come there by bus and Kenting Village is clearly minuscule (I just don’t want to image how crowded it must be in summer).

Kenting Village and Houses

Kenting, is a trully beautiful place, but incredibly minuscule!
However, it’s architecturally interesting.

Kenting Village, it’s just ONE small street (without sidewalk, because Taiwan) and… that’s pretty much it.

Prices were higher than the rest of Taiwan, but it’s a touristical place, so I guess it’s “normal”.

No need to take 50 pictures of the shops, they are all selling exactly the same things!

Kenting Streets Taiwan
So after more than 6 hours from Taichung, you arrive Kenting, whih it’s in a one street place with 15 restaurants (half are Thai), 20 shops that sell exactly the same stuff, and arround 30 small hotels, that’s it.

The Night Market is exactly the same as what happen during the day: it’s only the shops that are stil open at night!

Beautiful but weirdly too small.

See Kenting Beach.
Soon: Kenting-Chuanfanshih.

Kenting Beach Taiwan

Kenting, is located at the south end of Taiwan.

Kenting, is the pride of Taiwan. Everyone here talk about it as if it were the only beach of the world.
It, sort of is, as the shore is left abandoned and dirty all arround Taiwan (I know, Taiwan is an island!).

So if you want to find a not too ugly beach, you have to go to Kenting at the south, or at the north end.
Silly, isn’t it?

(There’s Hualien, too, but it’s full of earthquakes).

Nago Beach at Okinawa – Japan

Last days in Okinawa, let’s go to Nago (2 hours in bus from Naha) with a very beautiful iced blue water beach !

Nago Beach Okinawa Japan (6)
Due to the typhoon, it’s was very windy and not so warm.
This must really be awesome during spring.

Return from Naha Airport to Taipei, the International Flight building is very small and not convenient – and looks crappy compared to the National Flights main building. The plane was delayed again (1H).

Okinawa Retour Taipei from Naha

Naha Okinawa Japan

So, I finally went to Japan. Not in Tokyo, but in Okinawa.

First of all, japanese people are extremely polite and devoted, it’s awesome!

naha okinawa (5)
That’s quite a change when you come from France.

Then, everything is clean and neat. Japanese are very friendly. If you’re lost, they’ll help you, until you find your way.

The hotel stayed was really great, because in Japan people are very careful not to make any noise or disturbance, so I could sleep very well (unlike in every hotel in stay in Taiwan: full of chinese tourists who totally don’t care about other, chinese tourists are the rudest people I’ve ever seen!!!).

There’s a lot of typhoon at this time of the year, so better go when typhoon time is over…

Departure from Taipei Taoyuan airport (very clean and beautiful, much better than Paris CDG), with a 4H delayed flight (105€) due to the typhoon. Peache me Airlines gave me 200NTD (5€), hehehe…

Kaohsiung : Liuhe Night Market

I went in Kaohsiung and the city is awesome.

There’s so (too) few beaches and of course Night Markets. Here’s: Liuhe Night Market: between Formosa Boulevard Station (see picture below) and Kaohsiung Train Station.

Kaohsiung Formosa Boulevard Station
I am very doubtful about the hygiene of the food (and seafood) in Night Markets… so watch out people.
Be careful too, with scooters still passing fast, though the street is closed.

Beside food/drinks/fruits you also can find (cheap) clothes, jewels, tea (obviously) and other trifles (I sometimes don’t even know what it’s about).

What to do in Taichung : Taizhong Park

Near Taichung Station don’t miss: Táizhōng Park.

This is where the city was born and you can still see typical old house/temple.
Bus lines stop right in front the entrance (located at 1km north of the train station).

Beaches near Taichung: Daan Beach

First, you have to know, there’s very few beaches near Taichung, and there’s not easy to access (no bus, you have to search for it by car, during more than one hour from Taichung City).

Second, Daan’s Beach has been closed to public during 8 years, due to toxic reject in the sea (yeah, awesome…), and has been reopened recently. Hence, there’s no way you can find some hot spot around; the few building here are disused.

It actually looks like a ghost beach.
A grey sad ghost beach.

The water is way too warm and you can walk from 500km from the shore, the grey fine sand, it’s always very windy and you catch all this sand in the face.

There are some small grey crabs, but not nasty, they hide in the sand’s small holes.
