Taichung Rainbow Village and Chinese New Year

Last month it was Chinese New Year here.
Sucked a lot: all crowded places, higher prices, so many traffic jam everywhere, so many people at every cashier’s desk, etc.
And everyday at 24°C (that’s the good part actually) ^^.

If you come to Taichung, don’t miss the Rainbow Village (it’s more some houses, than a real village)!
The houses has been painted by an old very friendly guy, he was actually happy that I came from so far away to visit his place, because, yep, he’s living in the Rainbow Village!
He’s selling souvenirs, so he can live of it, it’s a great deal.

To go there, I took a free bus from Taichung High Speed Rail Station (THSR), I am not quite sure, but I think it was the 99.

What to do in Taichung: Confucius Temple

In central Taichung, you can find Confucius Temple. It’s very easy to access here (I took the bus line 100 until Chung-Yo (the huge mall), very near Yizhong street, then it’s only 10 minutes walking from there.

It’s a beautiful Temple, but they all look very similar to me…

What to do in Taichung : Taizhong Park

Near Taichung Station don’t miss: Táizhōng Park.

This is where the city was born and you can still see typical old house/temple.
Bus lines stop right in front the entrance (located at 1km north of the train station).

What to do in Taichung : Yizhong Street

Yizhong Street is a bunch of narrow streets full of small shops.

Do not search for quality here, just useless stuff, trinkets odd and ends (that sort of things), chintzy clothes, accesories, cheap electronic stuff, street foods and drinks, and other things that I even don’t know the use (or if there’s any use)…

You can go there until late night, just avoid the weekend, too crowded.

This is not fahsion blog, but you must know that fashion here in Taiwan is somehow… quaint.

All is stamped with kitsch florals and fashy childish prints, and above of it, badly crafted made clothes. Look both has-been and boorish.

The Fashion has here a je ne sais quoi de tragicomic.

There’s some shops that only sell blatant fake eyelash, fake gaudy coloured contact lenses… They’ve just so lost me.

(and it’s better I stop my observation right here and not comment this kind of ‘shoes’…)

There’s too, Chung Yo, very near. It’s a mall with all European expensive brands, I didn’t like so much, it’s all about prentending and overcosumption.

Seems there’s a big library at the top (10th floor), but I haven’t found something special in it: it’s mostly boring, plain, useless books. You won’t have any change to find a great awesome book there!

This mall (like all the other), just worth for the air conditioner.
